Ondo Assembly launches probe into land grabbing cases
In response to numerous petitions regarding land grabbing and the illegal occupation of landed property, the Ondo State House of Assembly has constituted an ad hoc committee to investigate the issue and find a lasting solution to this growing menace.
Addressing journalists on the development, the Chairman of the Committee and lawmaker representing Okitipupa Constituency 2, Gbegudu Ololade James, stated that the decision aligns with Section 103(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
He emphasised that the House is committed to discouraging violence and fraudulent activities related to land disputes, ensuring a safe and lawful environment for residents of Ondo State.
The Committee has invited the following individuals to appear before it on Tuesday, 18 February 2025, at the Mini Hallowed Chambers of the House of Assembly:
1. Mr Ojo Ajisafe – Okedasa Street, Ondo City.
2. Mr Shina Akinyele – Odo Igba Street, Igba, Ondo.
3. The Oloja of Igba, Mr Akinbobola Kehinde.
4. Mr Festus Ifedayo – Lipetesi Agiodo, Ondo East Local Government.
5. Mrs Stella Akinbobola – Lipetesi Agiodo, Ondo East Local Government.
Additionally, the following individuals are scheduled to appear on Wednesday, 19 February 2025:
1. His Royal Highness, Oba Omotayo Ajayi Adu, the Asinigbo of Isinigbo, Akure North.
2. Chief Mayowa Akinsulu, the Ooye of Isinigbo.
3. Mr Taiwo Potoki and Mr Oluwole Kareem.
The statement further specified that all invited persons are to appear at 11:00 am on their respective dates.
