Children’s Parliament Returns After 12 Years, Visits Ondo State House of Assembly

As part of activities marking the 2025 International Children's Day celebration, the 3rd Ondo State Children’s Parliament paid a historic visit to the Ondo State House of Assembly to observe the plenary session of the 10th Assembly.
The young parliamentarians, accompanied by their parents, staff of the Ministry of Women Affairs, and representatives from Save the Children International (NGO), were led to the House by Dr Seun Bosede Osamaye, Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs.
Dr Osamaye highlighted that the revival of the Children’s Parliament—moribund for 12 years—is a key initiative of the current administration. It aims to provide children in Ondo State with a platform to voice their opinions, advocate for their rights, and promote child welfare, with support from Save the Children International.
After observing the plenary session, the children moved to the lower chamber, where they engaged in an interactive session with members of the House.
Mr Eyimofe Omede, Case Study and Communication Officer for Save the Children International, expressed gratitude to the Speaker and members of the House for accommodating the Children’s Parliament. He also appealed for continued support and recognition of the Parliament as a vital voice in governance and child advocacy.
Samuel Raphael from Akure South LGA, a representative of the Children’s Parliament, expressed his excitement and honour at being part of the experience. He pledged to be a responsible and committed representative of his peers.
Rt Hon. Olamide Oladiji, Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, commended the efforts of the Special Adviser on Women Affairs and affirmed the House’s willingness to support future engagements of the Children’s Parliament. He praised Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for recognising the importance of children as spiritual gifts with great potential.
The House Majority Leader, Hon. Ogunmolasuyi (Owo Constituency 1), praised the Ministry for its efforts in addressing the needs of children. He described their access to the Assembly Chambers as a sign of hope for the future and encouraged the children to remain good ambassadors of their families, schools, the state, and the nation.
Hon. Moyinolorun Ogunwumiju from Ondo West Constituency 1 emphasised the visit’s significance in preparing the children for future leadership roles.
Hon. Princess Fayemi Olawumi from Ilaje Constituency 2 congratulated the young parliamentarians and encouraged them to pursue excellence regardless of gender, stating that “the sky is only the starting point.”
Hon. Chris Ogunlana from Irele Constituency urged the children to stay committed to their studies and to resist bullying in order to succeed in life.
Hon. Ologede from Akure North also congratulated the children parliamentarians on their participation.
Akinagbe Victor from St Joseph College, Ondo (representing Ondo West LGA), expressed appreciation on behalf of his fellow parliamentarians to the Speaker and members of the Assembly for their warm reception and encouragement. He pledged to be a proud ambassador of the state.
Bishop Oluseyi Odusola, Administrative Secretary of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, expressed his gratitude to the House for dedicating their time to engage with the Children’s Parliament.
The event marked a significant step in reawakening the Children’s Parliament and reaffirmed the Aiyedatiwa administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and child development.
