Ondo Govt reaffirms commitment to women empowerment.


The Governor of Ondo State, Dr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his commitment to providing an enabling environment for women to explore and fulfil their potential.


The Governor was represented by the Special Adviser on Women Affairs, Dr Seun Osamaye, at the Women and Youth Empowerment programme organised by Friendsociates in collaboration with the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) at The Dome in Akure.


Dr Aiyedatiwa announced that a week-long empowerment programme for women would take place in the state as part of his administration’s efforts to boost the economic viability of women across Ondo State.


He further stated that his government remains committed to delivering quality healthcare to women, including the provision of free medical care in rural communities.

The Governor assured that the his administration would leverage all available resources, including the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s Agricultural and Economic Empowerment projects for women. He said the administration would also seek benefits from strategic stakeholders, both local and international partners.

According to him, his government is not only for the privileged but for all citizens and residents of Ondo State to benefit from.

Dr Aiyedatiwa commended Friendsociates and NCWS for their efforts in initiating the empowerment programme, particularly their proposal to establish three resource centres and provide materials for women farmers.

He reiterated his administration’s openness to collaborating with non-governmental organisations, development partners, and other stakeholders to ensure the delivery of the dividends of democracy to the people of Ondo State.

In her remarks, the President of the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS), Mrs Ednah Azura, expressed appreciation to Governor Aiyedatiwa for his strides in women empowerment and for promoting inclusive governance. She pledged the full support of Nigerian women for the success of his administration.

Also speaking, the Ondo State President of NCWS, Bishop  Oluseyi Odusola, thanked the Governor for his fatherly support to NCWS and to the state at large. She also appreciated Friendsociates for the collaboration.


The Chairman of Friendsociates, Mr Biyi Poroye, applauded the Aiyedatiwa administration for its giant strides in women and human capital development. He especially thanked the Governor for offering to cover the hospital bill of a sick child belonging to one of NCWS’s members.

Dr Morinola Olanipekun, the programme manager, also expressed appreciation to the Governor for his ongoing support for women in the state, stating that their organisation’s efforts are aimed at complementing the government’s.

In her keynote address, the Comptroller of Immigration, Mrs Amaka Amara, highlighted the dangers of illegal migration and urged women to monitor their children. She stressed that Nigeria, particularly Ondo State, is richly endowed with natural and human resources that can be harnessed by the youth, eliminating the need to seek opportunities abroad.
