Minister Commends Ondo Governor, Urges States to Strengthen Women’s Empowerment Structures
The Minister of Women Affairs,H.E Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has called on Commissioners of Women Affairs across the country to reposition their ministries as proactive, problem-solving, and unified institutions central to social development and national progress.
The Minister made the charge during the Gender Equality and Women Empowerment (GEWE) Coordination Mechanism and Institutional Strengthening Meeting held at the National Women Development Centre in Abuja.
According to Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the high-level meeting was convened to present evidence-based research, advocacy toolkits, and progress reports on the Special Bill Act, while strengthening zonal coordination mechanisms across Nigeria.
She stressed that building unified and efficient institutions is essential for fostering economic growth and ensuring national security.
“Women Affairs Ministries must move from being reactive to being solutions-oriented. We must collaborate and build systems that are impactful and sustainable,” the Minister urged.
She also commended the Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for nominating Dr. Seun Osamaye as Commissioner . She charged the new commissioner to justify the confidence reposed in her by advancing the governor’s vision for improved welfare for women in Ondo State.
“This is a call to leadership. The future of women in Ondo State lies in the strength of the structures you build and the partnerships you foster,” she added.
The GEWE meeting, co-convened by UN Women, brought together stakeholders from government institutions, civil society, academia, and the media to review the status of GEWE Zonal Coordination Mechanisms nationwide.
A major highlight of the event was the official presentation of GEWE working tools to all State Commissioners for Women Affairs to support coordinated reporting and implementation.
Speaking on behalf of Ondo State, representative at the event,Dr Seun Osamaye noted that the materials received would significantly enhance the EASE Agenda of Governor Aiyedatiwa, particularly in driving digital access to resources for women across the state.
The event stakeholders noted reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment as a vital strategy for national development and inclusive governance.
