Ondo Assembly Reschedules Olawoye’s Commissioner Confirmation Over Official Engagement

By Olanrewaju Ayo

The Ondo State House of Assembly has postponed the confirmation of Engr. Ayorinde Abiola Olawoye, FNSE, FNICE, as Commissioner-Designate following a formal communication from him citing official duties outside the country.

Engr. Olawoye, who currently serves as the Special Adviser to Governor Lucky  Aiyedatiwa on Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing, informed the Assembly of his unavailability through an official letter.

The letter, which was read during the House plenary session by the Clerk of the House, Barr. Jaiyeola Benjamin, indicated that Olawoye’s absence was due to an official engagement approved by the Governor.

According to the Clerk, the Governor had mandated Engr. Olawoye to attend to pressing state-related responsibilities abroad, thereby making it impossible for him to be physically present at the scheduled confirmation session.

In response, the House of Assembly accepted the explanation and noted that a new date would be fixed for the confirmation process to continue in accordance with constitutional requirements.

The lawmakers described Olawoye’s absence as service-driven, expressing their understanding and anticipation of his eventual appearance before the Assembly.

It was also recalled that Engr. Olawoye had earlier appeared before the House Screening Committee on Monday, June 23, 2025, alongside 15 other commissioner-nominees.

He was successfully screened and cleared, awaiting formal confirmation by the full House alongside other nominees endorsed by the committee.

The rescheduled date for his confirmation is expected to be announced soon by the Assembly leadership, pending his return to the country.

Engr. Olawoye’s nomination and expected confirmation are part of the broader cabinet reorganization by Governor Aiyedatiwa aimed at strengthening governance in key sectors.
