Demehin’s victory rewarded: Ondo women applaud Governor Aiyedatiwa

Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Seun Osamaye, has applauded Governor Lucky  Aiyedatiwa for honouring Super Falcons defender, Oluwatosin Demehin, with a ₦30 million cash gift and a residential apartment in Sunshine Estate, Oba-Ile, Akure.

The reward, which was announced during a state-hosted event in honour of the Ilaje-born footballer and her team, was described by the Commissioner as a historic gesture that underscores the Governor’s commitment to the recognition and empowerment of the girl-child in Ondo State.

According to Dr. Osamaye, “This is unprecedented. To every girl-child, your dreams are valid. Governor Aiyedatiwa has not only celebrated Demehin’s excellence but has also set a strong motivational example for other girls in the state to dream big and work hard.”

She praised the Governor for identifying and rewarding homegrown talents, especially young women who have made the state and the country proud on the global stage. She added that this move is in line with the ongoing women and youth empowerment agenda of the state government.

Apart from Demehin’s individual recognition, the Governor also gifted members of her team a sum of ₦15 million, further reinforcing his administration’s dedication to sports development and youth encouragement.

Dr. Osamaye emphasised that such acts of recognition would go a long way in encouraging more girls to consider sports as a viable and honourable career path, thereby advancing gender inclusivity in athletics and beyond.

Oluwatosin Demehin, who once played for Sunshine Queens FC of Akure, is currently signed with Galatasaray FC in Turkey. She was a key part of the Super Falcons team that won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) for Nigeria in Morocco.

The Commissioner noted that Demehin’s journey from Ilaje in Ondo State to international football stardom is a powerful testimony that should inspire other girls across the state to pursue their dreams with determination and focus.

She reiterated the Ministry’s readiness to continue championing initiatives that uplift and empower young women, stressing that the “Our Ease” Agenda under Governor Aiyedatiwa remains a beacon of hope for women and girls in the state.
