Ondo Assembly Committee Pledges Support for Urban Planning Reforms

The Ondo State House of Assembly Committee on Physical Planning and Urban Development has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development to strengthen urban renewal and ensure proper land use across the state. The Committee, led by its Chairman, Hon. Babatunde Fasonu, gave the assurance during a familiarisation visit to the ministry in Akure. He noted that urban and regional planning remains central to the state’s infrastructural growth, sustainable development, and internally generated revenue (IGR). Fasonu commended the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Hon. Dr. Sunday Olajide, for his initiatives towards a master plan for cities , especially the state capital. The Ondo State House of Assembly has once again reminded residents that the declaration of war against land grabbing and related crimes in the state remains fully in force. The House Committee on Commerce and Industry gave the warning during its oversight visit to Araromi Ayesan Oil Palm Plc, and Rubber Estate Nigeria Limited,Araromi-Obu in Odigbo Local Government Area. Led by its Chairman, Hon. Afe Felix, the committee noted that land-grabbing activities have led to displacement, conflicts, and a breakdown of order in both rural and urban areas, while also discouraging investors from putting their resources into the state.
